Bike / Run Training - Saturday mornings

Regular Saturday training is primarily at Carver Airfield and Running Track just outside of Saffron Walden, during school term times.  When the airfield is not available the club often do run training on the grass hill behind the Lord Butler Leisure Centre or arrange away days such as cycling at the Redbridge Cycling Centre.

Saturday training is a combination of bike & run and transition skill training with an emphasis on development of bike skills and coordination in the younger age groups.

Carver Airfield  provides an excellent opportunity to cycle on tarmac or off road on mountain bikes in a safe car free environment where group riding can be coached and cornering skills practiced. The running track is a brand new start of the art track and is used during training mainly in the summer term.

Each group is lead by a team of coaches and a different discipline is done in each hour.

When children move up from Group 2 they automatically move into Group F which is generally for members who are training to keep fit and enjoy the training sessions. Coaches will access ability and age to determine when they are ready to move on the Group C where the training is more intense and caters for those who want to race regularly and have ambitions to race at a National Super Series level.

Carver Barracks

The easiest way to find it from the Friends’ School is to go down the hill to the Leisure Centre and turn right onto the Thaxted Road. Take the right turn just after the Barracks into Water Lane, sign posted for Debden. Go past the main entrance to the Barracks on the right and after about 200m turn right into the Airfield. When we are training the gate will be open and marshaled to stop other people driving in. Please park on the tarmac area next the playing fields after you have turned left just past the gate.
An aerial view of the airfield can be seen by clicking here.
